Poppy Seed Bread

Poppy Seed Bread

3 cups flour
1 1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
2 1/2 cups sugar
1 1/2 tablespoons poppy seed
1 1/2 cups oil
1 1/2 cups milk
1 1/2 teaspoon  almond flavoring
1 1/2 teaspoon butter flavoring
1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
3 eggs, slightly beaten

Put all ingredients in mixing bowl and beat for 1-2 minutes.
Do not over beat.
Pour into greased loaf pans (makes 2 loaves).

Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour.
Let cool slightly.

Icing:   1/4 cup orange juice
            3/4 cup sugar
            1/2 teaspoon almond flavoring
            1/2 teaspoon butter flavoring
            1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Mix together.  Spoon over bread while the bread is still warm.

I usually give this for Christmas gifts. It makes good little loaves to give away too. It also freezes well. Vivian gave me this recipe years ago, and I make it every year.
